During our class trip, we were able to visit the La Pietra House Museum. It was a very beautifully decorated house. I especially loved that when we walked into the entrance hall, the staircase curved around the entire room up to the second floor. It made the room very grand. We took these stairs up to the top floor and were able to have a sneak peak into Sir Harold Acton's wife Hortense's closet. We were able to see six of her dresses. They are one hundred years old and still very beautiful to this day. I found it very interesting that Hortense was very interested in French Couture with and Asian flare. I really enjoyed all the detail that was put into her clothes. The dresses we saw all had tiny beads, embroidery, or lace. They were pretty spectacular.
My favorite was the gold flapper dress. It was stunning.
I was very intrigued by how glamorously Mrs. Acton lived and wondered what she was like when she was alive and how she felt about her life. We were able to see her bedroom and her bathroom, and I was mesmerized by all of her objects that made her life seem so spectacular. For example her countless Louis Vuitton trunks, gorgeous bathroom chandelier, and any tool one might deem as necessary to be used to perfect her look.
